Why did my brussel sprouts burn in the air fryer? ›

Why did my brussels sprouts burn in the air fryer? If you don't shake the air fryer basket throughout the cooking process, you risk the sprouts burning before they are fully cooked. Can I air fry brussels sprouts without oil? While air-frying sprouts without oil will cook them, they won't be soft in the middle.

What happens if you put aluminum foil in the air fryer? ›

Foil is safe to use in an air fryer so long as you follow three basic rules: never let foil touch the heating element; make sure the foil is weighted so it doesn't blow around the basket; and avoid contact with acidic ingredients, which can cause the foil to leach onto your food.

Where does the grease go when you air fry bacon? ›

It drains! Unlike stovetop or oven-cooked bacon, the air fryer allows the bacon grease to drip into the pan, leaving you with crispier, healthier bacon.

What is the best temperature to air fry bacon? ›

Preheat an air fryer to 390 degrees F (200 degrees C) according to manufacturer's instructions. Lay bacon in the air fryer basket in a single layer; some overlap is okay. Fry for 8 minutes. Flip and continue cooking until bacon is crisp, about 7 minutes more.

How do you keep bacon from rolling up in an air fryer? ›

Place the bacon halves on the rack that came with the air fryer (so they aren't sitting directly on the bottom) in an even layer. Cook for 5-8 minutes until cooked to your liking. If the bacon moves or curls while cooking, simply use tongs to keep everything in a single layer.

Is bacon in the air fryer messy? ›

In just nine minutes, you can have hot bacon ready to serve. The best part about the air fryer is that the grease collects underneath the basket in the drawer, so there's no grease splatters in the kitchen and the grease is a cinch to discard (simply tip the drawer to pour off).

Why won't my Brussels sprouts get crispy? ›

Roast the Brussels Sprouts at high heat

If you don't hear them crisping up in the oven, add a little more oil and roast them for a few more minutes until your desire crispiness is achieved!

When should you not use brussel sprouts? ›

Throw out fresh brussel sprouts that have a foul odor, yellow or wilted leaves, a mushy or slimy texture, or dark spots. Use fresh brussel sprouts within 1–2 weeks of getting them.

When not to use brussel sprouts? ›

If any of the leaves have brown spots or are yellowing, it's a sign of early spoilage. If you remove the blemished leaves and the interior looks OK, you can still use the sprout. However, if the interior leaves are also showing blemishes or yellowing, it's best to toss it (or compost it, if you can).

What gives Brussels sprouts a better taste? ›

In the late 1990s scientists identified specific chemicals, called glucosinolates, that made Brussels sprouts taste bitter. Plant breeders started growing old seeds, previously discarded for producing paltry harvests, to identify tastier versions with lower levels of these compounds.

Should you cut Brussels sprouts in half before cooking? ›

One of the most common ways to cut a Brussels sprout is in half or quarters. By doing so, you reduce the size of the sprouts, speeding up cooking.

Why do you soak brussel sprouts before cooking? ›

Not only can soaking make the centers more malleable, but the water that's absorbed into them will create a steaming action, whether you choose to roast, saute, or make your Brussels sprouts in your air fryer. The steam can help to ensure the cooking is even throughout the Brussels sprout.

Do you use foil or parchment for bacon? ›

I oven fry my bacon in the oven without a rack, sometimes with parchment paper, and sometimes with foil. They all work. My favorite kind of bacon is thick cut bacon. That has always been my preference because it is delicious and thicker.

How to stop an air fryer from smoking when cooking bacon? ›

Place 1-2 pieces of bread underneath your air fryer's basket. The bread acts as a sponge and soaks up any excess grease that could cause your air fryer to smoke!
