CAN DOGS EAT CHEDDAR CHEESE?

Although cheese is full of protein, calcium and vitamin A it should be given in moderation to your dog as the fat content can add the calories.

However, little cubes of cheese are great for training and dogs seem to love cheese as much as we do.

Not all cheese varieties are suitable for dogs but Cheddar cheese is one of them. Other suitable cheeses for dogs are mozzarella, cottage cheese, Colby and Swiss cheese.

It goes without saying that cheese is not suitable for any dog who is lactose intolerant.

COCONUT FLOUR FOR DOGS

Coconut flour is made from ground coconut meat and is a great low carb and gluten free flour. It has a high fiber content, protein and high in vitamin B and C.

The lauric acid content in coconut flour can help with arthritis as it has anti-inflammatory properties.

INGREDIENTS

The ground chicken could be replaced by ground turkey. We cook it before using it in the recipe. If you have left over chicken (unseasoned) that could be used too.

Cheddar cheese could be swapped with cottage cheese or Swiss cheese.

To bind these homemade dog treats we used a combination of ground flaxseed and coconut flour to keep the treats low carb and gluten free. Almond flour could be used as well.

The parsley helps with fresh breath for the dog.

Remember to go slowly when introducing new foods. And we recommend checking with your veterinarian first if your dog has any digestive issues or other health concerns.

HOW TO MAKE CHEESE CHICKEN DOG TREATS

We baked these homemade dog treats in a silicone mold but you could roll them and bake them in balls. The mixture is too soft to roll.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can you freeze these chicken dog treats

These dog treats can be frozen and should be placed in a zip locked bag or air tight container. They will keep for up to 3 months and should be defrosted thoroughly before given as treat. Warm them in the oven or air fryer.

Are these crunchy dog treats?

The texture of these chicken treats is soft than crunchy. You could try to make them longer for a firmer treat.

How many treats can be given daily?

We would advise no more than 2 a day and these are treats, not a meal substitute. If you are monitoring your dogs diet, include the calorie amount of these into their daily allowance.
