The position will be overseen by the State Relations Director, but you’ll be given substantial leadership opportunities to work with the legislature and the executive branch.

The position works with Republicans/Democrats/Independents/Undeclared…We’re all friends here! You are a liaison of information on higher education. Information needed by policy makers to craft decisions.

A preferred candidate will also live in Anchorage during the interim and participate in activities, representing the university, as they arise.

To thrive in this role you’ll need to understand the legislative process and higher education. At least 4 years of legislative experience is highly recommended. From January to mid-May, you’ll be based in beautiful Juneau, Alaska.

This position requires the person to testify in committee, prepare legislative material, speak in front of groups of students/alumni/staff/faculty, and help write weekly capital reports for thousands of our UA family across the state.

Do you like going to functions and learning new things? Great! This is not a 9-5 position. Many times you’ll be attending events that may not be during the normal working day. You’re in the “people business” and you’ll need to be out there with the people.

Opportunities to travel to campuses around the state as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

At least 4 years of legislative experience. A 4-year degree or comparable experience.

Position Details:

This position is located in Juneau, Alaska at 227 4th Street in Juneau (right next to the Capitol) during the legislative session and flexible on-site/hybrid work arrangements will be considered during the interim.

This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental, and vision care coverage.New hires will be placed on theUA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 81, based on education and experience.
